Stanton Drew Circles and Cove

STANTON DREW CIRCLES AND COVE

7 miles from Peasedown St. John Parish

Although this is the third largest complex of prehistoric standing stones in England, the three circles and three-stone ‘cove’ of Stanton Drew in Somerset are surprisingly little known. The Great Circle, 113 metres in diameter, is one of the largest stone circles in the country and has 26 surviving upright stones. Yet recent surveys have revealed that the circles and cove were just part of a much more elaborate and important ritual site than had previously been imagined.

St John's Peasedown is part of the St J's Group which also covers the Parish Churches of: St Julian's Wellow, St James' the Less Foxcote and St Julian's Shoscombe. The Group is named after our three patron saints.

As four church families we seek to work together with our fellow Christians to extend the 'Kingdom of God' in our locality. We aim to be a warm, friendly, vibrant and growing group that loves to welcome new people and to share our life and faith with them. We are passionate about worshipping God and hearing Him speak through His word and we pray regularly for God's power to be released through us and into our communities. We long to see people: 'living lives worthy of the Lord, that seek to please Him in every way, that bear fruit in every good work, that grow in the knowledge of God and are being strengthened according to His glorious might.' (Colossians 1:10-11).

We offer every Sunday a range of worship styles from informal to the more traditional and during the week we seek to develop and grow our Christian communities through a variety of mid week activities.

We certainly look forward to meeting you!
